First Class (Tag Hufflepuffs and Slytherins)

Belle had heard that Slytherins had a reputation for starting fights on the first day of classes, but she hoped it wouldn't be the case here. She hated to judge a group of students before she got to know them. She sighed as she made sure everything was in order for the students: two pots for each, a pair of gloves, smocks for them to wear so they wouldn't get their robes dirty. She was wearing one herself, as was her usual habit if she was going to get down and dirty in the greenhouse. It wasn't exactly the most fashionable thing ever, but at least it was protective against the grim that often got spewed out by unruly plants.

Emily walked for the first time on a greenhouse for her first time in her life... She looked amazed to all the plants, and vases, and all the gardening stuff... She smiled shyly to Prof Mallery.. ''Hi, prof Mallery!'' She felt a little weird being around of all these new stuff, and she hold her hands on her back, playing with her hair, to not play with the gardening tools... ''Do you mind if I stay closer to you... some Slytherin aren't so friendly with me...'' she said sheepish to Belle. Emily wasn't afraid of facing the Roy boy again, but she knew it wasn't time or place to play some prank on him, even if he deserves.

Mr. Eliton growled hating to be outside and dealing with.. plants.. This class couls burn down for all he care, he shoved his hands on his pockets walking in the class room. His nose wrinkled at the small of flowers "tch," he rolled his eyes walking over towards the teacher. Damn, she saw hot for a teacher. "Morning." he said then shrugged looking over at Emily "Hey brat next time leave me and Evaine alone, everyone knows she wants me." he grinned before taking his seat.

Belle beamed as the little girl walked into the greenhouse. She had been present at the sorting and was glad to see that Emily had been sorted into Hufflepuff. She looked like such a sweet little thing. Almost reminded Belle of her when she had been that age. "Hello, Miss Castle," she replied, smiling at her. She was a little surprised at the girl's request, but she soon saw why when Leroy entered the room. Belle had heard rumors about the boy's habit of getting into trouble, mainly because of fights. And it looked like he was a bad egg from the way he spoke to Emily. "Language, Mr. Elton," Belle said sternly, giving him a look. "Or I'll have to dock points from your house." She turned to Emily. "Yes dearie, you can take a spot right up front," she said, patting a space next to her. Hopefully, Leroy would leave the poor girl alone with her being so close to a teacher. Why on Earth was he picking on someone so young in the first place? It made no sense to her.

Emily rolled her eyes as Roy entered the room, and narrowed them slightly when he called her brat... She was a princess, and someday he'll show some respect for her, it was just a matter of time...
''Thanks, prof Mallery...'' Emily shinned to the teacher, and stood right in front of her. She put her smocks, and glanced over Roy, saying... ''You're right, Mr Eliton. My friend Eva really wants you, a thousand miles away!!'' She stated firmly, without a trace of fear, and took her tongue out...
Then she turned bright to the teacher, and leaned into the table, smiling big... ''So, what are we going to do today??'' She asked, really curious about the class topic.

Leroy growled at the brat kid for what she said as he wanted to reached over the table pulling her by her hair and snacking some since into that kid. But he just sat down looking at the teacher "so is your big sister going back to the library today." he smirked at the girl. Even if Evaine wasn't he'll find her, one way or the other but first he had to deal with Mr. Hawkins.

Oh, my... How that boy was annoying.She didn't want to talk to him, she knew she would say something stupid, but she needed to put the boy on his place, and let out all she had in mind...
''Do I look like a guide, so you can know everthing about everyone?? No, I don't know where she is going or not going, and even if I knew, I wouldn't say to you! Why won't you do something useful into your life, like being a pleasant person, Mr Eliton.'' She said, and turned her gaze to the pots in front of her. That boy really didn't deserve her attention.

"Oh please, Leroy. Stop kidding yourself," said a velvety voice, Vivienne walking into the classroom, her piercing green eyes directed towards Leroy, "Don't brag about something that's not going to come to pass. Everyone knows Evaine hates you. Pathetic of you to keep chasing her. Got nothing else to do with your life?"

She turned towards the teacher and the younger Hufflepuff girl, giving a smile towards them, "Good morning Miss Mallery. And good morning to you as well, little one." She took a seat fairly close to the front, eyes still glued on Leroy, "It'd be wise of you to just keep your mouth shut before one of your idiotic remarks costs us House points."

Belle rolled her eyes. "That's enough, both of you," she said, looking her students in the eye. "Don't think I won't assign you extra homework if you don't shape up. If you can't talk pleasantly to each other, then I suggest you remain silent." She glanced more at Leroy as she said this though, sensing that he was trying to stir up some kind of trouble. "Just ignore him," she whispered to Emily. "He'll give up eventually if he doesn't see you react in some way." She sighed, feeling like things were already going downhill. And there were only three students in the room so far. Although Vivienne certainly seemed in a good mood. "Good morning, Miss Darkblood," she said, nodding her head and offering a little smile. Maybe she could help keep Leroy under control.

Emily looked down when prof Mallery looked at her. She didn't like these situations when she knew she was being wrong or incovinient, but that boy deserved to listen that... But she looked up to Belle when she whispered to her, and a glimpse of a smile crossed her face... ''I know, but one day I caught him hurting my friend, and I don't like him since then...'' She whispered to prof. Mallery, and bit her lower lip, still smiling remembering Leroy bald and singing his spells, it was very funny, and she couldn't help but giggling a little....

She heard an unknown voice, and turned her head to the girl that entered the class. She was certainly another Slythrin, you could tell because of the clothes... As the other girl started talking with boy, Emily turned her attention to the vases on the table. She turned her head up when the other girl greeted her, and just smiled back, then she turned her head into the plants around, noticing they were very different from plants muggles were used to handle.

Belle sighed as she glanced at the clock. It was time for class to start, but there were so few people here. She shrugged. Oh well. She would have to work with what she had, she supposed. "Alright everyone, let's get started. Be sure you all have your smocks and gloves on. Wouldn't want you getting dirt all over your robes on your first day. Now, if you'll look, you'll see that you have two pots in front of you. One is filled with dirt. The other contains a Mandrake. Does anyone know the properties of the Mandrake root, which can be extracted from it?"

Emily got intimidated being around just for Slytherin... Where was everybody?? She thought to herself. But then, she decided to just pay attention at prof Mallery, and everything would works fine. She had already her smock on, so she just needed to put her gloves on.
Once wearing the gloves, Emily felt a urge to scratch her head, but the gloves were dirty, and her hair would be dirty too. So she scratched very quickly, and that helped with the urge.
Then she looked closely to the vases in front of her, and analyzed the mandrake. When the teacher asked for what was the mandrake's properties, she kept quietly because she didn't know what to answer.

Vivienne proceeded to put on her smock, gloves, and earmuffs, tucking a few loose strands of her hair behind her ear. She rolled her eyes at Leroy, making a mental note to put him on her annoying list later on. 'Feel kinda bad for the bloke, though,' she thought, smirking, 'Nobody likes him.. not even Merlin. Poor thing.'

She raised her hand slightly when Miss Mallery asked the question, her words flowing out of her mouth nicely. "It's a member of the nightshade family and has been used in surgeries and medicinal purposes during ancient times. It can be used more sparingly as a pain killer and a sedative.. an overdose could be fatal, though."

'Oh, this is delicious,' she thought, 'I'm the class' smartass for today.'

Aileen had barely made it to class on time, her mind having been filled too many things that it slowed her down. But she wasn't late and that was what was important. Though it seemed she missed something for there was tension between Vivienne and Leroy. The professor didn't seem to pleased either and the hufflepuff first year seemed a bit smug., Just what had happened? Well, Aileen didn't have time to asked for she was quick to take her seat before the professor began class.

When the professor asked a question, it came to no surprise when she saw Vivienne raising her hand to answer. The girl was quite smart. One of her assets. She'll actually get us house points. Aileen thought as she took out her quill and some parchment. It was always good to take notes. This was actually important information and not a waste of time. Unlike some of her other classes.

Belle looked up to, thankfully, see another student enter. It was already barren enough in here and Belle felt awkward lecturing only a few people. And hopefully, more people would prevent Emily and Leroy from clashing against each other again. She didn't want the little girl getting hurt. "Ah, Miss Quinn, thank you for joining us," she said. "Miss Darkbloom was just correctly answering my question on the properties of the mandrake root. Five points to Slytherin for that." She turned to the rest of the class. "The mandrake root is very useful when performing surgery, since most spells usually only knock a person out for a short time. Of course, besides their medical properties, mandrakes are also infamous for the screams they emit when they are pulled out of the ground. The screams of an adult mandrake are fatal, but we're dealing with younger ones today, so their screams will only knock you out for a few hours. I have provided each of you with earmuffs to protect you, so if you'll put them on please, I will demonstrate how to repot a mandrake before you try it yourselves."

Emily heard closely to other other girl, and prof Mallery. She got animated hearing about the mandrakes, and definitely, magical plants were way more intes
resting than muggle ones. She was so excited about the plants that she didn't even notice the other girl entering the room.
She put her earmuffs, and checkes twice if she wasn't hearing anything. Then she waited for Prof Mallery for the next move, almost bouncing into her place.

Aileen gave a friendly smile, that she only felt halfway about, towards the professor before continuing her notes. Professor Mallery was a friendly woman, and a pureblood, so Aileen didn't feel animosity towards her. Merely a polite smile here and there, and the rest she could care less about.

As the professor began to explain mandrakes, the Slytherin girl was quick to jot it down in her notes with her neat hand writing. When she was finished, she grabbed her earmuff and placed them carefully on herself, making sure it was on properly so that the mandrakes would not effect her.

It would be far to embarrassing to be unconscious due to sapling mandrakes. Just the idea of it was mortifying enough. Aileen looked towards the professor and awaited further instructions.

Belle gave a quick glance around the room to make sure everyone was ready. She was glad to see Aileen taking note diligently. And she gave a little smile towards Emily, who seemed ready to bounce around the room in her excitement. "Alright, mandrake time," she said, clapping her hands and rubbing them together. "Now, the proper way to pull a mandrake out of a pot is to grasp it firmly by its stem, and then pull straight up." She demonstrated, pulling the mandrake out in one swift motion. The little plant immediately emitted a high-pitched shriek, its little arms and legs jerking about. Hopefully, the students would have their earmuffs on correctly and the sound wouldn't affect them. "Alright, now, you simply place the mandrake in the other pot and cover it completely with dirt, at which time it should settle down and stop jerking around so much." She did just that, placing the mandrake in the pot next to her and scooping handfuls of dirt onto it until it sat still. "Your turn now," she said, smiling at the other students.

Emily tried to listen what Prof Mallery was saying, but all she was able was seeing her mouth opening while she talked. Well, that would be a good thing, and the mandrake noise wouldn't affect her. Instead, she looked carefuly of what Prof Mallery was doing. Emily giggled softly seeing the mandrake root jerking in the teacher's hand, it looked like a little hungry baby, it was even cute for Emily...
Prof Mallery finished the process, and starting smiling over them. It took a little time to Emily realizes it was their turn to change the mandrake root to the other vase. ''Oh, right!'' Emily said, but he didn't even listened to her voice.
Emily had to use all her strength to pull out the mandrake from the vase. Once it was out, Emily saw its little mouth open, and it started jerking its little arms towards her. Emily giggled again, having much fun during the process.
She put the mandrake root on the other vase, and it started holding into the edges. Then she quickly started filling the vase with dirt, and the root seemed to enjoy it, since it stopped moving. When all the process was done, the mandrake looked like a muggle plant, quietly into the vase, and Emily couldn't help but smiling proudly at herself, while she hummed a song.

Vivienne patted her earmuffs, making sure her hair wasn't in the way before she started with her own Mandrake root. This was the only class she loved with all of her heart, and she didn't know why. She loved how cool and distinct-smelling the dirt was, how much greenery was around, and how crisp the air was. After all, she needed to be interested in SOMETHING other than parties, didn't she?

She pulled on her Mandrake root, inspecting the plant's features. It looked just like a baby.. an ugly, whiny baby. Gently putting the plant in her empty pot, she sprinkled dirt on it at first, then handfuls. She sighed as she got the plant to calm down, looking at Professor Mallery for further instruction.

Belle smiled, glad to see Emily having fun, despite her earlier argument with Leroy. And Vivienne potted her mandrake faster than anybody else. Soon, the other students finished potting their own mandrakes, some a bit more dirty than others. Mandrakes could be fussy sometimes, and they liked nothing more than flicking dirt everywhere. "Alright, well, that concludes our lesson for today. Good job everyone. For homework, I would like to write short essay on about a famous instance when a mandrake root was used. You can find many sources in the library, either in the History or Herbology section. Feel free to stop by here if you have any questions. There's a fountain where you can wash yourselves up on the way out."

Emily looked around, and before taking off her earmuff she checked if everybody's mandrake were quiet burried in the vases. She took off her gloves and the smock, putting them carefully on the table. She was still smiling gladly for getting so well at the class, but her smile faded right after she listened to professor saying they'll need to make an essay. She slapped herself, hidding her face. One more homework... She sighed, remembering all the homeworks accumulated, and she had done none.

She gave her best smile to Prof Mallery, and grabbed her stuff.

''Bye, Prof Mallery!'' She turned to the teacher while leaving the room, and didn't even care to the other Slytherins. She went straight to the library, hoping she was able to at least start all her homeworks.
